Parts of digestive System of Poultry

Mouth:
No breakdown of food occurs in mouth. Birds intake the food
with the help of beak.
2.
Esophagus:
Transport food from mouth to stomach.
3.
Crop:
It is used to store the food temporarily before moving it on
the stomach.
4.
Proventriculus:
It is true stomach of poultry where
digestion begins. Hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes are secreted that
helps in food breakdown.
5.
Gizzard:
It is the muscular part of the stomach that grinds food
into smaller particles.
6.
Small-Intestine:
Composed of duodenum, jejunum and illeum.
It helps in digestion and nutrient absorption.
7.
Caeca:
Bacterial action in the caeca
helps breakdown undigested food passing through the intestine.
8.
Large Intestine:
Helps in water absorption and eliminate waste products.
9.
Colon/Vent:
External opening that passes waste to outside.
